Pfilates Pilot Program for Seniors—A Success Story
Dec 19, 2024Pfilates, a leading provider of innovative pelvic floor strengthening solutions, offers a program specifically created for seniors. The solution was aimed at creating a science-backed comprehensive program that could be easily implemented into senior centers across the country. Incontinence, urgency, and overactive bladder in seniors can have devastating consequences from social isolation to medical interventions. With over $20 billion spent annually on incontinent products alone, our program sought to offer an efficient, effective, and empowering alternative to these more expensive and invasive treatments.
The challenge for Pfilates was to re-imagine the original ten movements and make them easily accessible for those chair bound or with mobility and cognitive challenges. As a result, we created an entirely new program with modifications to not just the movements, but the assessment forms used to measure participant success.
To test this new program, we partnered with Evergreen Commons in Holland, Michigan. Evergreen Commons is a senior community center that offers a variety of health and educational programming for those 55 years and older. In the spring of 2023, we offered two 28-day programs with approximately 60 participants in total meeting twice a week for structured teacher-led educational and movement sessions.
In just 28 days, 80% of participants reported at least a 50% improvement in their bladder and bowel symptoms, a 68% improvement in daily leaks, and a 30% improvement in nighttime voiding. Equally impressive was that 100% of participants said they would recommend our program to family and friends. While we love hardcore data, the most important benchmark of success was being told that Pfilates gave them confidence and their lives back.
Pfilates provides senior centers with staff training, ongoing support, and all the materials needed to implement and run this highly successful program. If you’d like to learn more, reach out to us to schedule a call.
